Laue House Inn “My uncle showed me Alma because he lived there when he was first married. It’s a charming little river town. \n \nI was driving past the Laue House and saw the sign that said prices start at $16 a night for bed-and-breakfast. I thought it was a mistake. It was not. \n \nI came back with a carload of friends and we had a ball. \n \nThe highest price room at the time was $35, and that got a Queen bed with bay window overlooking the Mississippi River. The $16 room is a small single. I opted for a larger, $24 room and let the ladies have the best room. \n \nThe place is loaded with antiques and looks like Bret Maverick just stepped out to court a fair lady. You can sit on the front porch in a wicker chair and your feet up on the rail and watch Ol' Man River flow past. Or play the player piano with the kids. Breakfast is self-serve and home-style, but what do you expect at this price ?? \n \nThe place is entirely run on the honor system. \n \nIf you visit Alma, be sure to picnic in the park up on the bluff and watch the riverboats on the Mississippi. Or go antique hunting along the stretch of river North of Alma. \n \nThey just don't make 'em like this any more. \n”
